About Family Soup

We're a grassroots mutual aid collective in Reno, Nevada, working to build community through direct support, dignity, and connection. Every Tuesday, we gather at Believe Plaza to share food, supplies, and care with our neighbors.

Our Mission

To build lasting community connections through mutual aid that centers dignity, solidarity, and collective care. We believe that by supporting each other directly and without conditions, we create the foundation for a more just and caring world.

Our Values

These principles guide everything we do and help us stay accountable to our community.

Solidarity, Not Charity

We believe in community members supporting each other as equals, not a top-down charity model. Everyone has something to offer and everyone deserves dignity.

No Conditions Asked

No paperwork, no proof of need, no questions asked. If you need support, you deserve support. Simple as that.

Community-Led

Our work is guided by the needs and voices of community members who use our services. We listen, learn, and adapt based on what people actually need.

Harm Reduction

We provide non-judgmental support and resources that meet people where they are, including safer use supplies and overdose prevention resources.

Our Story

Family Soup Mutual Aid grew out of the urgent needs revealed by the pandemic and economic crisis. When formal systems failed our community, neighbors stepped up to support each other.

What started as informal food sharing has grown into a weekly gathering that provides not just material support, but genuine community connection. We've seen how mutual aid transforms both those who receive and those who give.

Today, we're part of a growing movement that recognizes mutual aid as both survival strategy and revolutionary practice—building the world we want to see through direct action and community care.

Community Impact

Over 200 people fed weekly, countless connections made, and a growing network of mutual support across Reno.

Volunteer Community

A dedicated group of 50+ volunteers who show up every week to cook, serve, and build relationships with dignity and care.

Values in Action

Every Tuesday, we practice the principles of mutual aid: solidarity, dignity, and community care in action.
